Another Place

With many of us embracing the great outdoors closer to home this summer, beyond discovers Another Place – a Georgian gem in the lakes – which may be the perfect place to balance that longed-for luxurious retreat with the magnificent scenery the UK has to offer.

Nestled within 18 acres of gardens and extensive national parkland, at the edge of Ullswater, Another Place is a contemporary yet relaxed couple and family-friendly hotel that maximises its spectacular setting at every opportunity. Recently featured on the BBC’s ‘Interior Design Masters’, it’s clear to see that the distinctive styling has been carefully thought out to enhance the natural beauty that surrounds it.

With many of the 40 rooms featuring lake views, state-of-the-art Ruark Bluetooth sound systems and the added touches that make your stay feel that little bit extra-special, you’d be forgiven for not wanting to leave – but venture down to the Swim Club spa and you will not be disappointed. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal the incredible views of Ullswater from the impressive infinity pool that awaits, and the outdoor hot tub is the perfect romantic spot for those looking for a bit of peace and tranquillity.  Why not indulge in a treatment or two while you are there?

Once relaxed and rejuvenated, there is a whole host of activities on the doorstep – cycling, wild swimming, kayaking, paddle-boarding, horse-riding to name but a few. The Lake District National Park is renowned for its walking trails and cycle paths that you are free to explore, but the hotel is happy to arrange activities for all visitors, old and young, to make the most of their stay in this iconic location. Ullswater itself is the perfect starting point for those wishing to take on the mighty Helvellyn, one of the finest ridge walks in the world. If you are looking for extra thrills, try the Via Ferrata Xtreme in Honister, an adrenaline-pumping experience which takes you to the height of 2,066ft via a cliff-side adventure of iron ladders, steel cables and cargo nets.

No doubt such adventurous pursuits will work up an appetite and the two on-site relaxed-style restaurants will satisfy every taste. The Living Space focuses on a family-style menu with a terrace to enjoy al fresco eating in the warmer months, whereas Rampsbeck has a more formal feel but still welcoming with a laidback atmosphere. Even with its impeccable styling, young guests are made to feel more than welcome, with a specific children’s menu in the Living Space.

The family-friendly focus continues throughout the hotel, with excellent family room options such as the ‘Best Family Suite’ and ‘Best Family Cottage’. The cottages are a great choice for guests who are looking for that extra bit of privacy as they have full access to all the hotel facilities, but with the added bonus of their own kitchens. The free on-site creche is open daily for the little ones so that everyone has a chance to relax and for a special evening, the hotel offers a much-loved babysitting service.

Our four-legged friends are not left out in the cold either! Well behaved pups are free to roam off-lead in the gardens and private stretch of Ullswater shoreline, and can join well-behaved owners for a tipple in The Living Space and on the terrace. A fantastic chance to sample one of the speciality gins on offer.

Ultimately, this hotel provides the perfect escape whatever your idea of the perfect escape involves. Relaxing by the pool, sipping cocktails on the terrace, water sports with the family, hiking the mountainous terrain in the spectacular back-drop of the Lakes or merely enjoying time with loved ones after a tumultuous past year – the grandeur of this historic house mixed with its contemporary styling ensures this really is far from just another place.
