BEYOND THE FRINGE

In this issue Tina Farey, editorial director at RUSH Hair + Beauty gets us in the party mood with the latest hair looks and why ‘tis the season to experiment with textured styles, braids, blowouts and sculptured updos.

ALIEN INFLUENCE

For those who never like to wear the same style twice, this season is all about sculptured, almost otherworldly shapes. The beauty industry has taken a turn towards alien-like shapes when it comes to eyes and eyebrows, and that same experimental fun can be had with hair too. If you’re looking for inspiration, look back to vintage style rolled fringes and French rolls from the 1940s but add products that inject some serious high shine to make it a thoroughly modern look.

PRETTY LITTLE THING

Whatever your style or hair length, decorative clips and grips are a must for party season. Think bejewelled Alice bands, glitter scrunchies, velvet and pearl clips – more is more at this time of year. We saw gold Alice bands and elegant retro clips on the catwalks of Chanel and Dior and there’s no limit to how many you use at once, so don’t be afraid to layer them – think of them as hair jewellery.

BEAUTIFULLY UNDONE

If you’re someone who loves to let your hair down, literally, then you’ll likely be looking for products that give volume and control. Either treat yourself to a glamorous blowdry at the salon, or if you’re at home, be sure to focus on volume at the roots when you’re blowdrying or throw in some heated rollers for some sensuous waves. Whether you go long and loose or ultra wavy, be sure to finish the look with a spritz of your favourite, high hold hairspray.

BRAIDED BUNCH

Braids aren’t just for festival vibes; in fact, depending on your hair texture, there’s a braided look for everyone. If you’re someone who’s all about volume, why not try a ‘60s bouffant style? Make it modern by adding a braid at the side or if you’re a little more experienced with braided looks, feel free to go as small and intricate as you like – braids are a great way to add detail to an updo or a long, wavy style. If your hair is on the finer side, don’t be afraid to experiment with clip-in extensions or baby braids for a boho take on Christmas.
