WAVES OF INSPIRATION

Interior designer Sally Denning’s latest book will help transform even the most landlocked home into seaside paradise.

M ost of us dream of owning a bolthole by the sea. And for most of us it remains just that. However, interior designer Sally Denning is so convinced by the restorative properties of being by the coast that the interior designer’s latest book is an easy to follow guide to channelling the best of the seaside into your home.

“I love the sea. I love the way it makes me feel,” she says. “It recharges my batteries and rejuvenates me every time I visit.

“The sea seems to hold an appeal for everyone, which is why I wanted to write a book which isn’t just for those who are fortunate enough to have a seaside home, but which shows how to take inspiration from the beauty of the coast and bring those ideas inside.”

Denning recommends beginning with a calming colour palette, using natural fibres, such as cotton, wool and linen, for the upholstery and furnishings and using simple patterned cushions to add life and richness to a room.

“Look at any boatyard, harbour or row of beach huts and you can’t help but be inspired by the beauty of wood that has been subjected to salty breezes and lashing waves. When it comes to outdoor furniture, hunt down items with a bleached finish or those that have weathered to a silvery grey hue.

“Embracing all these elements will help you turn your house into a home where you can kick back and relax.”

Relaxed Coastal Style by Sally Denning is available to beyond readers for the special price of £14.99 including postage & packaging (rrp £19.99) by telephoning Macmillan Direct on 01256 302 699 and quoting the reference PR2.
