Face Value
Barely a day goes by without another new beauty product sashaying its way onto the main stage, word perfect in its promise to work wonders. It’s both exciting and exhausting, in that order, so I’ve decided to take a moment to celebrate some of my favourite beauty icons, some still in my own makeup bag, some in my daughter’s, which is surely the sign of an all-time great, and others that are definitely worth a revisit.
Benefit Benetint £22.50
This rose-tinted liquid of joy for cheeks and lips has been going for 49 years and still offers the same iconic, natural flush of colour. Last seen in my niece’s bag of beautifying tricks.
MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo £22
I’m not really a red lipstick gal, but if I was, this would be my pick. Another iconic product that is universally flattering with intense colour payoff and a completely matte finish.
Laura MercierTranslucent Loose Setting Powder £38.50
This is in my daughter’s makeup arsenal. Amidst a swathe of new all-singing, all-dancing powders, this little pot of magic has undoubtedly stood the test of time.
Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment £30
This was another of my favourites and I hear the formulation has now been tweaked to include caffeine and 75% more avocado oil. Definitely worth a revisit.
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream £50
This has been the star of the show in my make-up bag for years. Since the early days it’s been renamed, reformulated and now comes in more shades, making it even more fabulous.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant £31
Originally created in 1930, the product line may have expanded but the formulation has barely changed. I forgot how much I loved this moisturising, multi-functional beauty.
Clarins Blue Orchid Treatment Oil £45
One of the OG face oils and apart from packaging updates, this beauty is still made from 100% plant extracts to nourish, revitalise and leave skin satiny soft.
