It’s set to be another bumper week of world class tennis action, great hospitality and a star-studded line up of entertainment when the 2025 Lexus Ilkley Open rolls into town on June 8th to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Ten years after the first Ilkley Trophy tournament was held at the historic Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club, the team are gearing up for what promises to be their biggest ever sporting and hospitality event on record.

As hosts of the annual tennis spectacular – dubbed the Wimbledon of the North – the club have successfully overseen the growth of a tournament that is now ranked alongside some of the best in the world for prestige and reputation.

It has certainly grown in size since a few hundred fans came along to see Denis Kudla and Anna-Lena Friedsam lift the men’s and women’s single trophies for the first time back in 2015.

Compare that to the estimated 20,000 fans who are expected to watch the action unfold at this year’s Lexus Ilkley Open and you can see just how far it has come.

Such has been its growth,  it is now regarded as one of the game’s major grass court tournaments attracting the best players in the world as well as acting as a springboard for others to launch successful careers.

In 2016, The Ilkley Trophy – as it was then known – saw former world number one Danil Medvedev grace the courts before going on to enjoy global dominance just a few years later, while in 2022, current Wimbledon and Australian Open men’s doubles champ Henry Patten lifted the doubles crown at Ilkley.

Over the past decade, top players like Maria Sakkari, Alex de Minaur, Paul Jubb, Jack Draper, Jodie Burnage and Ons Jabeur have played at Ilkley with all of them enthusing about the club as a special place.

Originally part of the Trophy Series –  a new level of tournament introduced in the UK to respond to the extension of the grass court season and run up to Wimbledon –  Ilkley initially sat alongside Surbiton and Manchester.

But as the grass court calendar was reshaped and following Ilkley’s huge success and popularity it was decided to elevate the venue to an Open event and for the first time this year, it will sit proudly with Eastbourne, Nottingham and Birmingham.

Moving forward it means the club will attract an even greater calibre of player and alongside the men’s ATP Challenger Event, this year will also see the women’s event join the WTA Tour as a WTA 125 tournament, elevating its status further and showcasing some of the finest athletes in women’s tennis.

It all adds up to a week of sensational action both on and off the court with the club announcing  a star-studded line up of live music and entertainment throughout the week on their J.Lindeberg stage and making it a destination not just for the tennis purist but for the recreational fan too. 

Beyond the Baseline is a series of events over the week which will feature acts including Toploader, Scouting For Girls, Ibiza Symphonic Orchestra, Skinny Living, a Silent Disco plus a Chris Moyles 90s Night with the man himself.

Such additions, alongside the club’s renowned hospitality which will feature more than 20 food and drink outlets serving up their magic over the week, reflect the incredible efforts of all the team at Ilkley as they gear up for what promises to be unforgettable week of action both on and off the court.
