Any Leeds fan who was lucky enough to have followed the team in the late 90s and early 00s, will tell you what a magical time it was.

Lucas Radebe

With David O’Leary at the helm and a young side bursting with talent, Leeds took on the best both home and abroad as they competed for domestic and European honours.

It was a time of Ferdinand, Batty, Smith, Viduka, Kewell and Woodgate and the style of football was fearless, brash and electric to watch.

Now a new publication produced by Lower Block and featuring the brilliant photography of Justin Slee has been released showcasing the players who made this chapter in the history of Leeds United such a special time.

Between 1998 and 2003 Slee was working for the cult football magazine Leeds, Leeds, Leeds – a brilliant fanzine founded by Loaded and GQ editor James Brown and edited by Neil Jeffries – where he was given access to some of the club’s biggest stars.

And fans of the club can now enjoy those iconic images again in the limited edition publication which contains 33 colour and black and white photographs including such stars as Lucas Radebe, Alan Smith, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, David Batty, Rio Ferdinand and Mark Viduka.

Rio Ferdinand

Justin said: “It was a real privilege to capture images of such a unique part of my team’s footballing history. I recorded the development of so many gifted young players like Bowyer, Kewell, Harte, Smith, Woodgate mixed with experience in Viduka, Radebe, Martyn, Batty, Dacourt and Ferdinand,

“The squad was exceptional, fearless, fast and carefree. They had a bond and a commitment to each other and to Leeds. It was a dream job.”

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

The zine also includes an introduction by founder Brown who said: “It was a brilliant time and I loved working on that magazine. To this day I still think some of the covers were amongst the best I’ve done in terms of balance of cover lines and Justin’s photography.”

Robbie Keane

“It’s great that people will get to see more of his work from what was such a fantastic time for the club.”
