A family affair
New Brook Street Deli in Ilkley only opened last year but is rapidly making a name for itself on the town’s busy catering scene.
A t the height of last year’s lockdown Sally Brumfitt and her daughter Amy Metcalfe were talking about a new direction in life and what they would like to do in the future.
It was a conversation that many of us had as the pandemic threw plans, businesses and priorities sharply into the spotlight.
But unlike many who simply talk the talk, Sally and Amy decided to put their words into action and launch their own venture together – running a bustling deli in the heart of Ilkley.
Setting up a new catering business at any time in life is hard but during a global pandemic when so many restrictions were in place, was an even taller order.
But thanks to the determination and hard work of Sally and Amy, the pair have seen their business flourish over the past six months.
They have not only created a stunning deli brimming with delicious treats and local produce, they have also created a spacious al fresco dining area where customers can safely relax and enjoy a leisurely coffee or lunch.
Talking about their launch Amy said: “We knew it would be tough start because of the restrictions but we were determined to make it a success and try to give something immediately back to the community who have been so amazing since we first opened.”
Selling a range of artisan produce including sauces, marinades, jams, chutneys, fresh bread, eggs, meats, cheeses, New Brook Street Deli is also home to a mouth-watering sandwich menu which sits alongside no end of savoury and sweet treats.
Much of the produce is locally sourced where possible and both Amy and Sally are keen to make it a proper Yorkshire affair by using as many suppliers from the region as they can.
She said: “We have such a wealth of brilliant producers on our doorsteps from butchers to coffee makers and bakers to local fromageries and their produce is hugely popular with our customers.”
Open seven days a week from 8am-3.30pm on a week day; 9am-3pm on a Saturday and 10am-2pm on a Sunday, New Brook Street Deli also offers deliveries and can arrange outside catering for your home or business.
