on our radar

This month at beyond we have been mainly…..

HANGING OUT

Since discovering the work of artist Dane Shue last year, we can’t get enough of the contemporary pop artist. Heavily influenced by Andy Warhol, his colourful masterpieces are well worth checking out at daneshueart.com

DRINKING

One of our favourite dens has long been The Maven in Leeds and if you’re after a cocktail with attitude, it’s the place to head. The award-winning speakeasy bar blends coolness and sophistication and is the perfect hideaway for an intimate drink early doors or a roaring party as the night progresses.

JAZZING

Arguably Ilkley’s best chill-out bar, Friends of Ham have added another impressive string to their bow with the launch of their regular jazz nights. The intimate evenings will take place once a month over the summer and take place on 14th June, 12th July, 9th August and 13th September.

SMASHING IT

The Lexus Ilkley Trophy featuring some of the world’s top tennis players returns on June 17th for a week of great action and we’re sure to be courtside for the pre-Wimbledon tournament.

GIGGING

As festival season gets underway, there’s one gig we’ve already lined up this summer and that’s The Who. As part of their UK tour Townsend and Daltry will be strutting their stuff in Hull on July 6th complete with orchestra and special guest UB40.

SCHMOOZING

Our favourite London hotel Chateau Denmark have just opened their new bar, Thirteen, along with an underground haunt, dial8. Oozing all the decadence and hedonistic vibe of the Soho hotel, the two new venues capture the spirit of Denmark Street and serve an impressive array of cocktails and a mouth-watering menu of small plates. Well worth a visit if you’re down the Schmoke and fancy living like a rock star for the night.

ESCAPING

When it comes to escaping for the weekend, there’s nowhere quite like the stunning Northumberland coastline. With miles and miles of deserted golden beaches and  friendly locals,  it’s very much on our radar this summer. Beadnell Bay is a firm favourite and if you’re looking for a stopover, then we can’t recommend highly enough The Percy Arms in Chatton. Incredible food, beautiful rooms and just a short drive to the beach make this the ideal base from which to explore the amazing Northumberland coastline and countryside.

DINING

Exciting news as acclaimed Yorkshire chef Tommy Banks has just opened his third Yorkshire restaurant. The Abbey Inn Byland, is billed as a relaxed and stylish country pub with rooms and is located  just down the road from their Michelin-starred restaurant The Black Swan. Ingredients will be supplied from the family’s farm in Olstead. This is one place we can’t wait to check out this summer.
