Cool Bank Interiors

beyond steps into the cool world of Pool Bank Vintage Interiors and discovers a treasure trove of collectables, amazing art and mid-century furniture that will blow you away.

On the banks of the River Wharfe in a former Victorian paper mill just outside Otley, Ian Appleyard sinks into his favourite Pieff Beta 1970s leather sofa that is lit up by a retro Herbert Terry Anglepoise lamp.

For the past five years, it has been his place of work and home to an incredible array of mid-century collectables that has become the favourite haunt of vintage lovers and those looking to source some of the most eclectic furniture on the market.

Welcome to Pool Bank Vintage Interiors – a fascinating and seductive 9000 sq ft showroom set over three floors that is brimming with a curated collection of design classics, Danish furniture, industrial décor, lighting and contemporary art.

It is testament to Ian’s eye for detail and love for mid-century furniture that makes this such a magical place to visit and one that has gone from strength to strength despite such a tough few years.

Bringing people together who are passionate about vintage furniture was the reason he ditched a lifetime working in hospitality to pursue a career sourcing and selling his favourite pieces.

As his reputation within the industry grew so too did his stock and a visit to the mill which is bursting with beautiful furniture and artefacts from yesteryear, is guaranteed to blow you away.

But it is not just locals who are flocking to the magical world of Pool Bank Interiors and after several TV appearances on antique and salvage shows, Ian says he is now attracting the interest of a national and international audience.

It is a trend that has enjoyed a huge resurgence in recent years and one that has become as popular with contemporary fans as it has with retro lovers.

Talking about the business and the demand for his stock, Ian said: “My passion has always been for mid-century furniture and bringing the most beautiful minimalist, versatile and long-lasting pieces to the market.

“For me, the enduring charm of mid-century furniture is that it manages to be nostalgic and modern at the same time and there is a timelessness in either embracing the trend across your entire design scheme or buying just one or two stand-out pieces to complement a more modern home.”

Alongside their carefully curated range of furniture, lighting and contemporary art, Pool Bank Interiors is also home to a dedicated interior design and styling service and the team are on hand to offer their knowledge and expertise on the best way to incorporate classic vintage looks into your home.

Ian added: “Design is ultimately at the heart of everything we do and while we tirelessly source the world for the right pieces we are also passionate about helping people incorporate that into their homes to create the perfect look.”

Whether you love Danish, mid-century, industrial or vintage, there is sure to be something you’ll fall in love with at Pool Bank Interiors.
