This season is all about making a bold statement, whether you choose to go ultra-feminine, wear animal prints on your sleeves or re-visit the ‘90s, make sure you do it with impact. Harvey Nichols Fashion Buying Director, Anita Barr tells us her thoughts on the hottest trends out there this season.
“Femininity is really key, romantic ruffles and lace are huge next season, so invest now. On the flip side, the 90s are back, think ‘this is england’, slip dresses and bomber jackets alongside an explosion of colour. bold colour clashes worn head-to-toe are major for next season with a focus on primary colours.
Here are three key trends for Spring available at Harvey Nichols Leeds:
Femininity is a major trend this season – think ruffles, lace, floral prints and light feminine hues. Valentino’s blush guipure lace skirt with its delicate pleats and the elegant, swishy silhouette encompasses all of these elements.
HOW TO WEAR IT:
Pair it with Gucci’s ruffle-trimmed shirt. In a sky blue, its embellished cuffs and neck tie offer a feminine yet modern alternative to the classic blouses found on the high street. Step into the new season with Aquazzura’s buttery soft tan suede pumps. Traced with dainty criss-crosses and lace up ankles, they sit perfectly under the Valentino midi-skirt, offering a suitable colour clash.
Finish the look with Gucci’s mini Bloom cross-body bag. Crafted from leather, printed in a saturated blossom and complemented with its bamboo handle, this eye-catching creation is the perfect accessory to add a stylish twist to the classic feminine trend.
THE 90s REVIVAL
Last year we saw the revival of the ‘70s and ‘80s and this season, the ‘90s are back and are making a statement. Gucci’s bomber jacket guarantees to do just that, its hallmark striped trimmed edges give a nod to Gucci’s infamous heritage, whilst the cracked silver leather body is modern and bang on trend this season.
HOW TO WEAR IT:
Pair the Gucci bomber with a 90s inspired slip dress, like this T by Alexander Wang little black dress. Fitted in all the right places and sliced with cut outs at the back, this slinky stunner is sure to get you noticed in a crowd yet is subtle enough to not take away from the bomber. Finish with a black pair of mules, which are making a comeback this season, and a cross-body bag like Valentino’s Rockstud bag, an easy way to add a pop of vibrant colour.
If you are going to make a statement, then it might as well be bold. This season’s catwalks showcased a variety of daring patterns across the design houses. Stella McCartney’s equestrian Darcy trouser and shirt combo is a spring essential, breaking free from the minimalist connotations of monochrome, this attire is both stylish and brave, perfect for fashion mavens.
HOW TO WEAR IT:
Couple this bold combo with a pair of equally daring shoes! Propped on a wood and serrated foam sole, Stella McCartney’s charismatic Elyse flatforms are the ultimate trendsetter. Complete the look with an eye-catching bag like Loeffler Randall’s Silver iridescent clutch, perfect for a day in town or an evening of cocktails.
