1. ARCTIC MONKEYS:

With the release of Tranquillity Base Hotel and Casino – their first studio album for five years – Alex Turner and co are very much back in the spotlight and these homecoming gigs at Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena promise to be pretty special.

2. MISS SAIGON:

Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed new production of the hit musical arrives at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre. A retelling of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly the action moves to the Vietnam War, but the emotional punch is just as strong.

3. CIRQUE DU SOLEIL:

Those high wire and aerial specialists return to the First Direct Arena in Leeds with a brandnew show. Ovo is billed as ‘a celebration of nature’ and if it’s as spectacular as their previous offerings we are all in for a treat.

4. THOUGHT BUBBLE FESTIVAL:

Now in its 12th year this celebration of graphic novels and comic art, which takes over numerous venues in Leeds City Centre, will this year see an appearance from the creator of the Walking Dead books Charlie Adlard.

5. AN EVENING WITH MICHAEL PALIN:

The Monty Python stalwart. TV globetrotter and all round national treasure comes to Harrogate’s Royal Hall to talk about his new book Erebus – The Story of a Ship.

6. HACIENDA CLASSICAL WITH MANCHESTER CAMERATA:

The club’s original DJ partnership, Graeme Park and Mike Pickering, join forces with Manchester’s experimental orchestra to reinterpret seminal dance classics at Leeds’ First Direct Arena.

7. JASON DERULO:

It was a long time coming, but the American singer who has sold more than 30 million singles finally arrives at the First Direct Arena on his rescheduled European tour.

8. YORK FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVAL:

The final line-up was being confirmed as we were going to print, but if previous events are anything to go by it should deliver another topnotch foodie festival along Parliament Street.

9. FREEDOM FESTIVAL:

Its year as UK City of Culture might be over, but the party goes on in Hull. The festival is now in its 10th year and this year the line-up will once again be the usual mix of street theatre, live music and performance.

10. ILKLEY LITERATURE FESTIVAL:

This annual literary bash always attracts big names and this year England cricketer Moeen Ali will be talking about his new autobiography alongside the likes of Joanna Trollope, Susan Calman and John Simpson.

11. CARO EMERALD:

Following five star reviews and a raft of sold out shows, the gorgeous and stylish Caro Emerald is back with her trademark blend of retro jazz and modern pop and the tour stops off at Harrogate Convention Centre.

12. TOM GRENNAN:

After a hugely successful sold out tour earlier this year, the indie-soul newcomer will be playing some of his biggest headline shows to date at Leeds’ O2 Academy it’s likely to be a sell out given the response to his debut album, Lighting Matches.

13. RUDIMENTAL:

The BRIT Award-winning collective embark on their first headline tour in two years this October. With two genre-defying albums to their name and recent single These Days going platinum, the group continue to prove why they’re one of the UK’s greatest export with a gig at the O2 Academy.

14. THEY DON’T PAY? WE WON’T PAY!:

Deborah McAndrew’s new adaptation of Dario Fo’s political satire of civil disobedience transposes the action to Brexit Britain opens at York Theatre Royal.

15. WHOOPI GOLDBERG:

The world-renowned actress brings her one woman show to Leeds’ First Direct Arena. After her observations on current affairs – Trump is likely to get a mention – there will also be a question and answer session.

16. CILLA – THE MUSICAL:

The hit show which follows Cilla’s life from the ordinary streets of Liverpool to worldwide fame as both a singer and television presenter returns to Yorkshire and the Leeds Grand Theatre.

17. ALT-J:

Having first met at Leeds University, the Mercury Prize winning Alt-J return to home turf. One of the most successful bands of the millennial generation this gig at Leeds Town Hall is a must.

18. THE HEPWORTH PRIZE FOR SCULPTURE:

Take five artists, give them an empty room in the Wakefield gallery and let their imaginations run wild. That’s pretty much the brief here and after the exhibition opens one will walk off with the £30,000 prize.

19. IT’S ALL ABOUT ME:

Joanna Lumley embarks on her first ever live tour, taking the audience at Leeds First Direct Arena on a journey through her incredible career from the Avengers to Absolutely Fabulous.
