We salute the eight Yorkshire restaurants who made the cut at the 2025 Michelin Awards and were given or retained one of those coveted shiny stars of excellence.

It’s been another fantastic year for food in Yorkshire and at this year’s Michelin Guide ceremony – which took place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow – the gastronomic Gods once again gave their seal of approval to eight of the county’s best-loved and most revered restaurants.

Roots, York

It was one of our best hauls yet and alongside the magnificent seven who retained their stars from last year (Roots in York; The Black Swan at Oldstead; The Angel at Hetton; The Star Inn at Harome; Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall; Myse Hovingham and the Pipe and Glass in South Dalton) there was an eighth added to the list in the shape of Middleton Lodge’s Forge restaurant.

The North Yorkshire restaurant praised for creating “flavours out of this world” by customers was among 21 other restaurants with an impressive one Michelin Star.

Head chef Jake Jones, who launched Forge in 2023, has played a pivotal role in shaping its ‘estate-to-plate’ ethos, working closely with the estate’s gardening team to craft innovative menus that showcase seasonal produce grown on-site.

The accolade follows Jake’s Michelin Young Chef of the Year award last year, as well as the estate receiving a Michelin Green Star.

Jake said: “Being awarded a Michelin Star really is a dream come true. We have an amazing team at Middleton Lodge and this award means so much to all of us.

“The estate is a constant source of inspiration, and it is a privilege to build a community of guests who share our passion for food.”

Forge at Middleton Lodge

In its summary of Forge, the Michelin Guide stated: “The cooking demonstrates a strong grasp of balance and flavour, with dishes that allow these local ingredients to shine like the picture-perfect Reuben blackberry and pineapple weed tart.”
