THERE WILL BE TIME

Established by two lifelong watch dealers, Investing in Time, has earned a reputation as Yorkshire’s finest destination for vintage watch enthusiasts. We caught up with the men behind the business whose mission is to share their enduring passion for antique timepieces with fellow collectors and discerning buyers alike.

Stepping into the offices of Investing in Time is a little like stepping back in time.

The walls are lined with rare Heuer memorabilia while the rich heritage of legendary watchmakers like Omega, Brietling and Rolex unfolds before you as you sink into a comfy Chesterfield and are guided through a carefully curated collection of pristine vintage timepieces.

Located in the stunning Bowcliffe Hall on the outskirts of Wetherby, this is no ordinary retail outlet but instead a destination for enthusiasts, collectors and those who are looking to invest in a watch that will stand the test of time.

Founded by seasoned watch connoisseurs Jonathan Scatchard and Guy Nelson-Bolton, the pair teamed up in 2012 to launch Investing in Time Ltd and are now regarded as one of the most trusted luxury vintage watch dealers in Yorkshire.

With over 60 years of combined industry experience, it is a partnership that runs like clockwork and one that is built on knowledge, customer service but above all a love for antique timepieces.

It was this mutual passion for vintage watches as independent dealers that inspired them to join forces as business partners partners. Now, 14 years on, their business is booming with a global audience visiting their two primary websites, Vintage Heuer and Vintage Watch Shop, which are dedicated to buying and selling history’s greatest watches.

Jonathan’s interest in antique watches first began in the 90s when he realised that the market for 60s and 70s sports watches remained largely untapped.

Watches from brands such as Heuer lacked the recognition that their quality and design deserved, and it was this that inspired Jonathan to build a large collection of Heuer timepieces which went on to spark a huge upturn in demand for the iconic timepiece.

The launch of his website vintageheuer.com only fuelled interest further and 30 years on it is seen as Jonathan’s foresight and knowledge that undoubtedly helped make the brand so collectable and sought after.

Talking about the business today, Jonathan said: “We have seen an explosion in the antique watch market over the past 20 years and an increasing number of people are now looking at watches as a serious investment.

“At Investing in Time, we understand the allure and emotional value that classic watches hold. Whether you’re seeking to enrich your collection with a statement vintage model or looking to sell a pre-owned treasured piece, we’re here to support you every step of the way.”

Meanwhile throughout the 90s and 00s, Guy dedicated his time to managing a prestigious watch store in Leeds while at the same time building up a portfolio of vintage watches that he predicted would be huge investment pieces.

Buying up a range of classic timepieces from Rolex to Omega whilst building up an extensive network of clients and dealers, opened the door to a meeting with Jonathan and Investing in Time was born.

In 2016, Jonathan and Guy established their headquarters at Bowcliffe Hall- a magnificent Georgian country house perfectly placed just of the A1(M) and with its tranquil grounds, private driver’s club and intimate connection to motorsports it is the ideal location to view or purchase one of their beautiful timepieces.

Guy said: “This private, appointment-only experience, steeped in fine motorsports and aviation history, provides an opportunity to view fabulous watches in a totally unique setting and we always relish any opportunity to meet new faces and discuss old watches.

“As a dedicated watch provider in Yorkshire, we offer expert guidance, honest valuations and a commitment to authenticity. Our passion is to help you rediscover the charm of bygone eras with our exceptional range of vintage watches.”
