Get set for a red hot summer

R ed, in all its many vibrant forms, has had a major resurgence in recent seasons. From pillarbox through to strawberry blonde, red has become one seriously hot hue and is currently one of our most in-demand shades across Westrow’s nine salons. Thanks in part to the standout hair shade at Fashion Week last season – Miu Miu’s cherry blossom, in case you missed it – red is a bold and beautiful colour that has serious transformational power and is a refreshing alternative to the cool blonde hues that have come to define the trends of recent years. This style embodies exactly what red hair is about: it’s fun, it’s playful, yet it means business. The vivaciousness of red and the huge variety of shades available make it a popular colour choice with our more experimental clients and we predict it will become the temporary tint of choice with festival-goers this summer. Red can be flattering on pretty much any skintone, so if you fancy trying it out this summer, ask your Westrow colourist to find a hue that’s bespoke to you.

TILL PLAITS DO US PART
If you’re looking for wedding hair inspo, pop into your local Westrow salon, where our style-savvy team of Westrow Bridal Specialists are on hand to help. Braids have become a fashionable go-to style for brides in recent years – their ability to look romantic, without appearing whimsical, makes them a real holy grail in terms of bridal hairstyles. Many bridal designers chose braids for their Spring/Summer ’19 showcase – Cymbeline and Suzanne Neville, to name just two – but it was Berta’s models that really nailed a fresh and exciting take on bridal braids. Backstage, models were given dramatic plaited partings – that’s a centre-parting bordered by twin scalp braids – that fed into fierce-looking ponytails. It was a style that looked edgy, modern and unique, and an interesting move away from traditional bridal styles, making it ideal if you’re a bride who likes to play around with style boundaries. This trend would be perfect for modern beach nuptials, and with the hair swept away from the face, would really suit destination weddings where heat and humidity threaten sleeker styles. If you’re looking for wedding hair inspo, pop into your local Westrow salon, where our style-savvy team of wedding hair wonders are on hand to help you choose your ‘do to say I do’.

PONY TALES
To celebrate Mary Katrantzou’s 10th year, her latest SS19 collection was a characteristically colourful and eclectic sartorial offering inspired by blown glass, stamps, perfume bottles, works of art and jewellery. Taking its lead from the eccentricity and contrast within the collection, Revlon Professional stylists got busy backstage styling models’ hair to boost contrast, texture and shine. Characterised by two polar opposite styles of ponytail – a Little House On The Prairie pony to the back; a soft mohican at the front – the portrayal of contrasts was concluded with a mixture of finishes in one style: soft and fluid to the front, hard and glass-like to the sides.
Get the look:
Use Revlon Professional Style Master Hairspray No.2 to nail the harder, sharper side of this look, as they did backstage. Meanwhile Revlon Professional Orofluido Mousse will give hold and guts to your style, without any stiffness – ideal for creating the softer, more fluid elements of this style.
Insider tip:
This may look simple, but don’t be fooled: it’s a bold aesthetic that is quietly attention commanding. If you opt for this style, make sure you pair it, like Katrantzou’s models did, with bold colours and plenty of attitude.
